The concept of liposuction was introduced 35 years ago. Since then, liposuction procedures have been performed using a variety of methods and cannulas. Every few years, the methods have been modified several times.
The tumescent infiltration to the area of operation at the beginning of liposuction provides not only numbness to the patient, and helps protect against bleeding, but also allows surgeons to perform the operation as a day surgery procedure. The most comfortable operation is done under local anaesthesia (tumescent infiltration) and intravenous sedation with quick recovery and minimum postoperative bruising.
Ultrasonic liposuction was introduced in the 1990s, where the fatty tissue is first liquefied before it is extracted from the body. Over the years the method has been improved and recently has become known as Vaser liposuction. The method is more efficient and more complete allowing removal of fatty tissue while preserving the integrity of the blood vessels and nerves.
Despite giving a great shape following liposuction, it can be difficult to maintain the shape for years. With age, our metabolic activity is slower and we have a tendency to gain weight. For this reason, Dr. Roberts introduced Holistic Liposuction which includes not only performing liposuction, but also giving patients very specific and precise diet advice for many months to develop healthy habits and to preserve very good shape for decades.
