I would like to share with you the drive and passion which has led me to the field of cosmetic surgery. I chose to study medicine many years ago because I wanted to help people. It is not something that is easy to learn. You can teach a medical student the medical science, but the caring quality for people is something that is in your soul.
As a determined medical student and intern, I enjoyed working in emergency departments and in operation theatres. I always loved fixing things with my hands. To get the proper experience, I spent over ten years in teaching hospitals holding positions from Junior Resident to Associate Professor in Dermatological Surgery, and achieving my PhD degree.
I loved the fact that I could take a patient who needs help in some aspect and I could perform an operation to clear the problem. To have a good patient - surgeon relationship, you have to genuinely love your job and you should also love coming to work every day and be passionate about your patients. It requires hard work with focus and dedication to be truly regarded by patients and the medical community. Devotion to perfectionism pushes you to do a good job every time. There needs to be something inside you that drives you to provide the best service you can.
I was inspired by other doctors who I met in my multiple trainings overseas; In the USA, Europe, Asia and also in Australia. The passion and drive for new technologies is very important. The more experience you get, the more rewarding results you can see with your patients. To do the right thing, and to really trust yourself, you have to spend decades helping patients and performing thousands of procedures, and then you can be proud of your work.
In the current age, all specialties are getting more precise and more improved. It is unavoidable not to continue to sub-specialise in specific cosmetic operations or procedures, not to be involved constantly in research to improve the methods and to go overseas every year to share your experience with other doctors and learn from them as well.
Helping people to be healthier is also very important e.g. help them to lose weight, advise them how to reduce tendency to diabetes or to stop smoking etc.
I am always empathetic to my patients, trying to do everything that I can to improve the patients concerns or renew patient confidence and embrace a younger fresher look with cosmetic procedures. In the current time of hectic lifestyles and demanding aesthetic ideas, more people are coming to experts for help in embracing their natural beauty, or natural look in a safe way.
