Successful liposculpture is when the patients contour is improved and look balanced from all angles, in other words, three-dimensional. Dr. Roberts has been performing liposculpture for over 25 years using, through this period of time, many different methods and adjusting his surgery to modern and more technologically advanced trends.
Advanced technology dramatically reduces the need to follow up liposuction with a corrective procedure for the dimpling. Statistics tell us that, in skilled hands, the touch-up liposuction is only required in 1 in 300 cases.
Usually, liposuction is done in three stages.
Stage One: tumescent infiltration, to prepare the patient, a special fluid is injected into the fatty tissue to enlarge the fat cells. This facilitates the removal and reduces the bleeding, bruising and produces numbness so that there is little or no pain.
Stage Two: This breaks down the fatty cells and liquefies them, ready for removal. There are many methods to liquefy the fatty tissues – this includes ultrasound, radiofrequency, laser, water jet, and more.
Step Three: To achieve very good improvement, Dr. Roberts prefers to use very small cannulas of mainly two or three millimetres in diameters, sometimes with low-frequency vibration (power cannula) to help remove the tiny fat cells more precisely. Overall, the results with his methods are impressive. This method enables him to be very precise and the risk of bruising or injuring the skin is greatly reduced. The results are smoother contours, which are pleasing from all angles, and is especially useful and effective when treating the fibrous tissue of male breasts, backs or ‘love handles’ and knees or calves of larger patients.
The recovery time for the patient with this modern technique is very quick – usually 2 to 3 days out of action, and usually, there is no bruising. In this precision, Dr. Roberts prefers to use ‘double marking’ on the area of the body to be treated (the bulges are marked in blue and the indentations in red). Occasionally, we prefer to perform a fat transplant at the same time to give the patient the smoothest possible contours by reducing the bulges and by elevating the depressions and in this way a new pleasing shape is achieved. Overall the skills and experience with new technology create the best results.
